Q: Can you alter Content Provider's ingredients?

Q: Can scaled recipes be saved as new recipes?
A: No, this version of i-COOK Pro does not support the saving of scaled recipes as new recipes but does give you the ability to print the recipe.

Q: Not all the fields scaled properly in my recipe, why?
A: When scaling a recipe, the methods and notes do not scale.

Q: How do I back up my files in case of a system crash?
A: It’s important to be certain that you are working with a released version of the i-COOK Pro application. We suggest backing up your Recipe database and performing a complete uninstall and re-install using the latest release build on www.icookpro.com. Once completed, copy your Recipe database backup over the one which is installed by default. This way you will not lose any of your work.

You can easily back up your saved Recipes by maintaining a backup copy of your “userdb.bin” file. It should fit on any number of media types: a Zip 250 disk, CD-R, DVD-R, DVD+R, even a USB thumb drive with at least 100 MB free space. You may want to consider copying this file onto a secondary hard drive, if you have one. The benefit of maintaining a backup copy of the “userdb.bin” file is that you can remove i-COOK Pro and reinstall a fresh copy (by following the directions in the Uninstall procedure that I’ve included below) of i-COOK Pro without losing your work. This file can be found in the same folder where i-COOK is installed. Again, please refer to the “Uninstalling i-COOK Pro” documentation for this location.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The “userdb.bin” file is “keyed” to your Email Address and Password using strong encryption. Only the original user of an i-COOK Pro instance will be able to restore a backup copy of a Recipe database. If you forget your login credentials and cannot retrieve them (for example: if your original user record is ever removed from the i-COOK Portal database), the contents of your “userdb.bin” file will be lost.

To uninstall i-COOK Pro:
1. On your computer, go into your Control Panel and select Add/Remove Programs.
2. Right click on i-COOK Pro and click on Remove.
3. Go into your Program Files and delete the Folder labeled Lifeware.
4. i-COOK Pro should now be removed from your desktop.
5. Go to www.icookpro.com and follow the instructions to download the application.
6. After downloading the application, follow the remaining steps to install the application to your desktop.

Q: When I start i-COOK Pro, the program seems to be checking the Internet for updates each time. Can the automatic update feature be set to manual or disabled?
A: The application will check www.icookpro.com for updates to the Application Updater executable each time you start the application. This is done to prevent any corruption to the Application Updater program, and in turn, protect your installation from becoming un-updatable. On a medium- or high-speed Internet connection, this procedure will increase startup time by usually one or two seconds. On a 56K baud dial-up connection, it may increase startup time by up to 15 seconds, but only if you are actively connected when you start i-COOK Pro.

I-COOK Pro and its Application Updater executable were designed for fault tolerance: each one makes sure that the other is up-to-date. In the event that one is compromised (either accidentally or intentionally), damaged, or deleted, the other can repair it and thus prevent your i-COOK Pro installation from getting permanently corrupted.

If you are experiencing a 60 second load time, it most likely is due to lower computing horsepower. We’ve tested the application startup time with a very old laptop running Windows XP and the startup time was close to 30 seconds. I-COOK Pro is a memory intensive program due to the fact that we offer a vast pool of Recipes and Ingredients bundled with the application.

If your modern hardware comes with plenty of memory and a fast CPU, and you are experiencing this delay, it could be that there are more applications running in the background that are consuming most of the computer’s resources.

Q. Can I import recipes from Mastercook into i-COOK Pro?
A. We are currently developing a data import tool to accommodate the myriad of recipe file types that currently exist in the marketplace, including Mastercook.

If you have recipes in Mastercook and are interested in purchasing i-COOK Pro for your own use, then there is a way to populate i-COOK Pro with your Mastercook recipes today.

In Mastercook, you have an export feature. If you export your recipes as either a group or individual recipes into a .txt file format, you can then open up that file and copy and paste the individual recipes into the "free form editor" tool in our application. All you have to do then is highlight each part of the recipe and select the appropriate field headers (title, ingredients, method, etc.) and the recipes will be placed into the i-COOK format.

While this is not an "automatic" import, it allows for you to edit your existing recipes, put them into appropriate categories, add photos, etc. In addition, you can attach these individual .txt files or any recipe file that you have, for that matter, to the recipe form itself so that you can save your original source material to that recipe.
